Phonics Worksheets for Homeschoolers
The phonics reading method of decoding words using recognizable sounds has been around since about the 16th century. It is still one of the most popular ways to teach learners to read. Beginning in the 1970s, many educators began suggesting that the use of phonics be included in a whole language learning approach which seeks to teach children to read and awaken them to the beauty of language and reading by helping them connect what they are learning to the world around them. It is looking at the whole of something and then looking at the parts. This practice was thought to be a better facilitator of literacy rather than teaching phonics as an isolated subject.
Many of our resources throughout the site help bring language alive and create whole learners - those children who can see the importance of what they are learning and how it will be useful in the world around them. It is our thought that by illustrating to learners why what they are learning is important, they will want to learn more and master that to which they are exposed.
As we continue to build this phonics area, we hope that our resources help solidify your child's grasp of language as well as how and why it is important to learn to use it properly.
