Synonyms

Synonyms are words that are similar in meaning to other words.  For example:  happy and glad, said and stated, pretty and beautiful are all similar word pairs.  Kids usually enjoy synonym work and practice not only is it fun but it also helps build up vocabulary.

Helpful Tips:

• Try something new in word study.  Have learners write new words they come across in their reading or learning in the centre of one of the blank templates above.  As they look up and write and/or draw synonyms to the new word, they will increase their vocabulary with the synonyms themselves and reinforce the new word in the centre a minimum of seven times!  Now that's exciting!
