Antonyms

Antonyms are words that are opposite in meaning to other words.  For example:  fast and slow, black and white, up and down are all opposite word pairs.  Kids usually love doing antonym work and practice not only is it fun but it also helps build up vocabulary.

Helpful Tips:

• Try something new.  Have learners write new words they come across in their reading or learning in the centre of one of the blank templates above.  As they look up and write and/or draw antonyms to the new word, they will increase their vocabulary with the antonyms themselves and reinforce the new word in the centre a minimum of seven times!  Now that's exciting!
