A-Z Quests For Homeschoolers
Go Questing to learn about all kinds of neat and exciting things!
Join us on a learning quest for all ages!! Research and find information on selected topics using the letters of the alphabet as acronymic helpers. Quests can be found in the following themed focus areas:
A-Z Quests
Art Quests
Canadian Quests
Faith Quests
Music Quests
Science Quests
Virtue Quests
This has proven to be a fun way to cultivate research skills among our children. This activity builds skills such as:
- Choosing appropriate research resources
- Performing internet searches
- Reading for content or skimming for details
- Using the public library resources independently
- Using an encyclopedia and many more
Questing is easy. Simply choose a topic and fill in a word or phrase for each letter of the alphabet that goes with the topic criteria. We do not provide the answers as many times there can be more than one answer and we don't want to limit players. Learners can play alone or in teams and keep track of who gets the most letters or play for points using the point gauge.
How to Score A-Z Quest Sheets
You will notice that answers are not
provided for most A-Z Quest sheets. This is to allow for open minded
thinking and good research opportunities. You can still score sheets
for fun and learner challenges based on how many words are found. Just
follow this simple point scale:
Words Beginning With the Letters Points
AEIOUW 1
DHLNRST 2
CFGMPVJK 3
QXYZ 4
Total score for a fully completed A-Z Quest is 60pts.*
*Note: You may decide that extra points can be given for more than one answer in a letter. Establish rules at the beginning of each quest and feel free to make changes subsequent quests as research skills improve.
