Homeschooling families are very unique. Each has different needs based on their children's learning styles, ages, and capabilities. By offering resources in different methods, we can serve the needs of each family in some way.You can probably guess that we are an eclectic learning family taking our favourite aspects of each method and using them as necessary to create a fun learning program of our own. Hooray for choices!Homeschool Resources by Method
Charlotte Mason Resources (CM)
This method of learning uses excellent quality literature (aka living books) to teach children the majority of their needed subjects. Using short lessons, narration, and God's glory in the world around us, 19th century Christian Charlotte Mason used a liberal arts education to teach children the science of relations in learning. Our My Book mini-books are perfect for CM narration. See our always popular, always growing collection now.
This style of learning takes us back to our Latin roots which divides learning into 3 stages based on the Trivium - grammar, logic and rhetoric stages. I like to think of this method as the "begin at the beginning" method. Our ever popular, Our Learning Flashcards, are perfect for this method. See what else we have to support this method of learning.
Lapbooking is a fun approach to thematic learning that uses folders, mini-books, specialized folded flaps of paper and other creative tools to create a piece of work that recounts and recaps learned information. These are great alone or in conjunction with novel studies, unit studies, and more. See our templates, go-alongs, and mini-books for inspiration. Plus, we've created our own specialized style of creating "flip-flop books" to be able to store them in a 3-ring binder and even combine them with our worksheets.
Montessori is a very hands-on learning method that allows children to make natural connections with the world around them through self-paced, self-directed learning. See our collection of Montessori cards to help reinforce this method. Our Catholic sets are quite popular.
Notebooking is a simple creative technique that involves noting important ideas and concepts learned using words, drawings and other add-ons in a notebook or 3-ring binder. Great for independent, mature learners as well as young learners. Find our templates and writing papers in a variety of styles and themes to help learners stay focused or to add fun and spice to their notebooks. We've even created a Juniour set of templates for the littlest, newest writers.
It seems pretty natural to want to use our favourite books and novels to foster learning with our children. As they bond with characters, re-enact plots in backyard play and repeat their favourite lines from the book, one can't miss the impact books have on our kids. This method takes it a step further by using books to create thematic learning opportunities in various subjects areas like geography, social studies, language arts, math, writing, vocab, etc. We've tried to provide some neat resources for some of our favourite books that may add to your novel study.
Project-based Learning Resources
Project based learning focuses on real life learning through the completion of a specific project. We have seen the beauty and the validity of this method as our children have created memorable and functional family recipe books, planned and planted gardens, prayed for others, helped around the house, written books and so much more. Take a peek today.
Unit studies generally combine teaching various subject areas like art, geography, social studies, language arts, writing, etc. around one topic. This method is very popular with those who need to teach multiple children at once. |
