Using our spelling resources are easy and fun.

    1. Print out the appropriate pieces to the spelling passport and assemble.

    2. Choose the wordlist you would like to focus on and then print out the go-along wordlist helpers and activities we have provided.  If you are using your own words, simply print out the blank resources and handwrite your own words in.

    3. Have your child read through the wordlist daily with you and write the copywork wordlist daily.

    4. Use the activity cards daily using your game of choice.

    5. Select one spelling activity sheet to do daily. We are always adding to this list so check back often.

    6. Encourage your child to review daily using Our Learning Cards flashcards.

    7. At the end of a week, two weeks or at any time you feel your child is ready, assess your child to make sure they know the words.  Assessment could be a formal written test, a test at a chalkboard/wipe off board, using magnetic letters, writing in coloured pens, oral spelling bee style, writing in sand or ???

    Components of Our Spelling Lessons

(Yummy Daily Spelling is used as an example below.)

    Spelling Passport

Yummy Daily Spelling Passport Yummy Daily Spelling Passport Sheet

Use this piece to keep track of your child's progression through their wordlists.  You can choose to use the sheets we have designed using our own chosen lists or you can print out the blank sheets and write in your own wordlist titles.

    Spelling Passport Sticker Sheet

Almost all children love stickers.  Have your child use these stickers to mark their Spelling Passport after they have mastered the wordlists.  Each sticker corresponds to a particular wordlist.  We have also provided blank stickers for you to write the title of any additional lists you may need or desire for them to master.

These sheets can be printed out on actual sticker paper from the office supply store or you can simply print them out on regular paper and your child can glue them in.

    Spelling List Games Cards

Yummy Daily Spelling Game CardsIf you have a hands-on learner or a learner that loves games, then this may very well be one of your favourite aspects of this pack of resources.  These game cards come with each matching wordlist.  They are perfect for playing a variety of games from, quick as a bunny list them in alphabetical order, 20 questions to guess a word, definition type games.  You can also print out two sets a week and play go fish or concentration.  Mix and match sets to create larger review type go fish style games.  You'll be surprised how just one game a day reinforces words to easy mastery.  A blank template is also provided for you to make your own cards.

    Spelling List Copywork Sheets

Copywork sheets are provided to encourage your child to write the list words at least once everyday.  Not only are they practicing spelling, but they are working on handwriting as well.  Our theory is to combine as many subjects as possible so as not to exhaust young learners.

    Spelling List Word Strips

Use these strips as word wall type decorations or to feature the current wordlist on the bulletin board or to distinguish words we know well from new words to learn.

Yummy Daily Spelling Word Strips on the door - example

*Our family has also used them as flashcard wordlists as well.  As a review we try to quickly read as many words from a list as possible.  As soon as one word is missed we go to the next list.  We do it like a neat little race going to a specific beat or pattern that the child has chosen.  Lots of fun and reinforcement this way.

    Spelling List Learning Cards

Yummy Daily Spelling Phonics FlashcardsThese little cards are perfect for anytime review or help when filling out activity sheets.  Since a textbook is many times too clunky to take to bed, these neat little cards serve as great manipulative for spelling.  They are fun to look through and do quick little tests with.  They are always a hit with my kids.

    Spelling Activity and Assessment Sheets

Word Art Spelling SheetsUse our creative worksheets to reinforce any wordlist.  We've tried to incorporate some grammar practice and opportunities for art into some sheets to appeal to a variety of learning styles.  You can assess your child with a formal test if need be.  We have provided some inviting, non-threatening test sheets for younger learners.  They come with and without a space for a grade.  We are constantly adding activities to this section, so check back often.
