Letter Sounds & Recognition Phonics Games

Learning the names and sounds of letters is one of the very first and most basics steps in learning to read.  Of course one of the best things we can do for our children is to read to them from a very young age.  Second to that, we can provide lots of opportunities for them to practice recognizing, saying and mimicking letter sounds either in their environment or fostered through fun game play.  We have created games that can be used independently and checked by mom or dad, siblings, etc. or can be played with others.  We hope you find them useful.

The Bear Brothers Phonics Games

Age:  Wee+

Focus:  Letter sounds and recognition of the consonant letters B and D

Children sometimes confuse the letters B and D by sight as well as sound.  Let this game help clear the confusion for your learners. The Bear Brothers love painting pictures.  Unfortunately they don’t like signing their names on their artwork and have now mixed them up.  Learners will help the Bear Brothers find their own pieces of art through phonetic practice.  Pieces are sounded out.  If the objects on the pictures start with the letter B they, belong to Blue Bear.  If the objects start with the letter D, they belong to Dandelion Bear.  At the end of the game, each bear should have the same number of pictures.  Some pictures can be tricky and require careful attention to detail or problem solving with the process of elimination.
