When we became homeschoolers almost 10 years ago, we had a vision of how we wanted our children to learn. It was in our hearts to teach using elements of play. Little did we know that we would have a gifted child who would not like to play and was a confident whole language learner by her third birthday. So, we put our ideas of teaching with play on the shelf for some years until we had our second child. When she came along, all she wanted to do was play. Since we didn't have anything ready for a hands-on, playful learner, we began creating games. We taught her to read using a variety of materials and activities like reading aloud but mostly through our own playful resources - games, worksheets, writing activities - and of course, reading aloud to her. I can testify to the effectiveness of stress free, prayerful, and playful learning. We hope our games and resources can help you in the same way. BTW - After witnessing her sister's progress and fun in learning, our gifted child finally grew to accept and love playful learning as a viable teaching method by grade 5.
