Math Ordinal Number GamesChildren often times use or hear the phrase, "the first goes last to heaven" when they don't come in first playing a game or when they aren't chosen first for team play. This phrase based on Matthew 20:16, gives them a bit of consolation and helps them heal a bit of a wounded heart. But really, this passage introduces us to the fact that being first isn't always the best and all ordinal numbers have value. Whether you are chosen first or twentieth, you still have value in God's eyes. Use these games to not only teach about ordinal numbers but also about good sportsmanship and the positive value of being last as well as first. |

The Ordinal Numbers Go to the Movies Math GameAge: Wee+ Focus: Ordinal numbers practice using numerals and counting from 1-20
Children learn ordinal numbers by pairing the ordinal number with the character's place in line as they patiently wait to attend a movie. Each character is different and allows callers and players to use their imagination during play. Numbers range from 1st to 20th. Game instructions provide a number of examples for play. All of the names used for characters are from the Bible.
