Free Resources to Help Children Learn About St. Sister Maria Faustina Kowalska

St. Maria Faustina Kowalska is best known as the mystic nun whom our Lord, Jesus, appeared to and revealed the image of the Divine Mercy  and asked that it be venerated.  The devotion to the Divine Mercy and the spreading of this devotion the world over became the centre of her religious life as our Lord requested this himself in his apparitions to her.  In her short life of only 33 years, she was a shining example of a faithful servant in love with her Lord.

Pope John Paul II, in his papacy, declared the first Sunday after Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday, in which the devotion to the Divine Mercy is recalled and prayed in the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy.  Jesus dictated the Chaplet of Divine Mercy to Sister Faustina in Vilnius in 1935.  He also shared the special promises attached to devoutly praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet - even if only once in one's life.

To pray the chaplet of the Divine Mercy:

Using the beads of the rosary:

Begin with the Sign of the Cross, then say 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary and The Apostles Creed.

Then on the beads that we usually pray the Our Father prayer when praying the rosary, pray the following:

"Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ; in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world."

On the beads that we use to pray 10 Hail Mary in the rosary, pray the following:

"For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world."

Repeat the above for each of the five decades.  To conclude the chaplet, at  the end of the decades, pray three times:

"Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world."
