Book StudiesFor over 50 years conservationist Thornton W. Burgess wrote about the beauty of nature for children of all ages. All total, Burgess wrote more that 170 books and 15,000 stories by retirement. Each book brought animals and natural elements to life with names and personality traits to teach children about their beauty and importance in the scheme of our beautiful living world. In 1919 Burgess wrote The Burgess Bird Book for Children to introduce young children to the world of birds. It is a masterpiece for learners of all ages. This work is gentle and tells a nice story as well as introduces readers to over ninety different birds - without even realizing it. Oh the learning that can occur in the simplicity of beautifully written literature! This book is included on many science reading lists including the Ambleside curriculum and many other Charlotte Mason based reading lists.
