Big Books of Narration for Classic Literature
![]() |
Classic literature can be a very broad and encompassing category of works. Our working definition of classic literature is a work that has a proven longevity of readership, worth and moral value to those who pick it up time after time. They are the books that we should have read, did read once upon a time, suggested others read, and would read again. They aren't all happy stories, but the are usually ageless and timeless. If after reading the book we walk away greatly impacted in some way by the story, setting, characters, plot, or lessons brought to light, then it is probably a classic work.
You will find titles below to what we consider classic literature for our family. The writing sheets are very easy to use. We've tried to give you a quick glimpse of what the pages may look like. The finished products are very nice and are not only a nice keepsake, but also a great proof of learning. See our Big Books of Narration main page to see how to put them together.
We have also included progress sheets for some of the titles. These sheets were a way we came up with to keep track of the reading and the progress of our children's narration efforts. In a true Charlotte Mason style, these progress sheets help to provide a reading schedule to allow the book to be savoured rather than consumed by eager readers. Slow digestion of the work helps to bring the plot, setting, and characters to life. Of course, feel free to do whatever works for your family or to omit the progress sheets all together. We are just sharing what worked for us.
