Big Books For Narration
![]() |
Families who use either the Classical Learning style or the Charlotte Mason (CM) style of learning which require the pondering, understanding, and narration of literary works, will love these easy to make keepsake pieces and proof of learning.
This resource is a natural progression from our My Books Mini-books as they progress chapter by chapter through a work, provide more space for writing, provide a space for illustration, and usually have an additional fun element to prompt thought. In many titles we have also included a check off progress sheet for older learners (or mom and dad) to help track reading schedules and completion since we did not put a space for the date completed on the books themselves.
Works have been selected because we have read them in our own family. Most are in the Public Domain while a few others are older but still do not qualify for Public Domain status. As we read more books, we will add more to our list.
It is very easy and inexpensive to make these writing books.
Step 1. Print out the sheets in landscape mode on plain 8.5"x11" paper.
Step 2. Fill in the sheets and additional elements as reading progresses through the work being read.
Step 3. Fold sheets in half with the words facing out, order by chapter and bind at left with brads, rings or put them into a mini-binder, trimmed duo-tang, or folder. It's fast, simple, affordable and fun.
These books don't have to be fancy to be effective and enjoyed by learners. Here is a variation of binding and a cover using some cardboard and some rings from the five and dime store. They come in various sizes with about ten to a pack for dollar.
