Piecing it all together for Catholic Homeschoolers
Advent.
. .The Coming - Faith Detective Lapbook Style Activity
Use this Cut-N-Paste lapbook style activity to help children learn about the Who, When, Where and Why of the nativity. No writing is required. There are four steps to completion using scissors and glue.
Take your child on the tour of your church. It can easily be arranged with your sacristan or priest. Many CCD, Religious Ed. programs offer this once a year to children as well. Print out this sheet. As you go on your tour, mark the things you see on the way. This works especially well with a clipboard and pencil. Feedback from my CCD students was quite positive and they felt like they were on a treasure hunt while they did this activity on our tour. BTW - Don't forget to ask to see the bell tower if you have one. It's always a favourite with the children. ☺
Church Tour Match Up Vol.
I.
- Juniour Addition
This matching activity asks children to recognize and match up names and pictures of things they might see in a Catholic church. These are great when laminated. This version uses more common names for church articles. Some of the more technical names are not used here but will be used in the updated set coming out late this summer.
Parts of
the Mass
[Version for
use w/index cards]
This matching activity asks children to recognize and match up sayings from the mass to the part of the mass it comes from. Reading is required. This game can be a real challenge for some. One could also just put the verses in chronological order and not match them as well.
ACTS - Four Types of Prayer and angels and original sin
Explanation of the four basic types of prayer: Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving, Supplication; as well as an introduction to angels and original sin.
ACTS - Four Types of
Prayer Lapbook Style Activity Sheet
Use this Cut-N-Paste activity to help children learn 4 types of prayer. Good for many ages as there are quite a few different steps in this activity.
Simple review sheets of prayers that every child (big or little ☺) should know.
Make
an Apostles' Creed Booklet
Children love to make books. This printable activity will require them to make a booklet of the Apostles' Creed. It is a neat way to teach the Apostles' Creed to elementary aged children. It requires a bit of time but well worth it. The skills of following direction, cutting, gluing and some reading are required. I have done this activity with a classroom of children, but an assistant is definitely needed in the assembly of the project.

Prayer
Project For the Holy Souls in Purgatory
Penance, Reconciliation, Confession
Use this worksheet to prepare for the first reception of this wonderful sacrament. It is great as a review or an activity to do together.
Use this sheet as a review of how the Prodigal's son is linked to the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Make
a Stations of the Cross book
(B/W Version)
Use this project to help children remember our Lord's death. This is a very gentle approach to this most important event. Young tender hearts often have trouble viewing our Lord in suffering. This project uses the wonderful book "The Stations of the Cross" by Fr. Lawrence Lovasik as it's base. I have used this project with only two children as well as in the classroom setting and it is always well received.
